Who, Me?

I’m a Lead Creature FX and Rigging artist that has been working between Vancouver and London for the last 10 years. Initially I focused mainly on muscle simulation, however I’m now deeply involved in almost every facet of Creature FX and Rigging. Muscles, cloth, hair, tech anim, facial rigging and puppet rigging to name a few.

A tour of the projects I have worked on:

It all started when…

Image Engine:

My first gig in visual effects.  I was hired as a junior rigger and began my career on one of the grossest yet coolest shows; The Thing (2011).  I grew my portfolio, learned how to code, and lead my own shows quickly in this company. The team at IE at the time taught me a lot about the process, the tools and working together.  It feels great to be going back there again in 2019.

MPC (London):

Despite the size of this behemoth of VFX, MPC is the place where I made so many friends in the VFX industry.  There was a lot to learn at the time and it felt good to be in it together with so many fresh faces in the company.  A friend once told me that it takes 6 months to learn MPC’s pipeline and while I think this is close to the case, I have never worked in another company with such a fully featured pipeline.

Electric Theatre Collective:

ETC was my first foray into commercials.  I was used to having shows in for months at a time, and while the Centre Parcs commercial we did was a short turnaround for me at just over two months, we achieved a lot in a short amount of time.  I learned a lot about working quickly at ETC. While I’m used to focusing on making tools that I can reuse later, this job pushed me just to get it done.

Cinesite (London):

Cinesite was a blank canvas for CFX when I got there, which at the time was liberating and quite daunting at the same time.  Over the four and a half years the CFX team that Cinesite and I put together for CFX achieved a lot and worked in concert with other Cinesite locations to push the limits of what Cinesite could do and how much we could deliver in a short amount of time.
